Inventory: Lists | Log | References | Condensed | Search

This is a list of all 23 bridges from the suspension bridge inventory crossing Seine River. Please note that different rivers with the same name will be grouped together. For example, selecting 'Bear Creek' shows bridges across several different Bear Creeks. Also, similarly named rivers are grouped separately. For example, 'River Dee' (UK) bridges are grouped separately from 'Dee River' (Australia) bridges. Wherever you see a "Bridgemeister ID" number you can click it to isolate the bridge on its own page. • Ann Saul sent a synopsis of this bridge's history from La Roche-Guyon, Bourg Feodal de l'Ancien Vexin Francais by Ernest Colas. "The author states that the bridge was built in 1838, originally with two pylons, one on each bank of the Seine. In 1882, gale force winds turned over a wide stretch of the bridge floor. Afterwards, another pylon was placed in the middle of the river (if I am translating it properly); however, the bridge was not considered stable enough for modern transportation (the automobile, perhaps). Plans were made for a new bridge and the old one was demolished. The new bridge was never built because of World War I."
