Wayne collected information about the bridge from a representative of the Marathon City government: "It was built decades ago as a secondary pedestrian route over the river to access the municipal well field on the north side of the river in case of flooding of the old highway bridge. From what I understand it was built by workers of the Marathon Brewery. The bridge does not comply with current safety codes and it has been closed to public use for over 20 years as a result."
