The original suspension bridge at Meung-sur-Loire was completed in 1836 and was partially reconstructed several times before it was destroyed in June 1940.
The original appearance of the bridge and pillars.
In 1925, the bridge was heavily reconstructed. Among many changes, semicircular sections were removed from the pillars to allow the deck width to be increased. Jochem writes: "you can see the mortar of where the old cables used to be on the pillars, the pillars were cut on the inside to increase the carriageway width."
Destroyed, June 1940.
The replacement bridge, completed 1948.
