The derelict Loups Bridge is one of four known surviving John Justice Jr. bridges and likely dates to the 1820s. The Crathie bridge is another surviving example of Justice's work. See The Happy Pontist - Scottish Bridges: 53. Loups Bridge for more information about the Loups bridge.
Dave correctly surmises this is an early example of the cable-stayed form: "On close inspection it's not a suspension bridge. It's more like an early cable stayed bridge. I could not find any plaques etc. that showed the age or provenance of the bridge. It's a two span bridge over a gorge. The visible remains are the central pillar with its iron salmon sculpture. Remains of the abutment at the east end. Plus some iron work. The suspension links are very thin rods. It must have looked impressive when new."
