Dale's images show the erection of one of the towers for the huge Ponca pipeline bridge in 1961. This bridge appears to have been removed in late 2006 or 2007. Dale writes: "I believe it was constructed around 1961. My family took photos of the construction project. From what I know, the caretakers for the South Dakota side of the pipeline would have been Wayne and Jean Austin. Unfortunately, both Wayne and Jean have long since passed on. I believe Wayne was responsible for such things as visually insuring the airplane avoidance lights atop the rig functioned properly. I also believe Wayne was the night watchman for the first pipeline construction process." This was likely not the first pipeline suspension bridge at this location. See this bridge for more information.
