The cable-stayed span acts as a swing bridge. Dave writes: "There is a pivot on the northeast bank of the river round which the centre section pivots."
"Shows the coupling twixt the bridge pivot and the underside of the walkway."
"A view of the bridge pivot located on the northeast side of the river."
"On the northeast side of the river looking approximately southeast. The bridge pivot is on the right. The joint between the northeast fixed portion and the moving central portion is above the pedestrian's head. The gates to close off the footpath are to the left of the joint."
"Looking southwest from approximately the bridge centre. The pedestrian is about to cross the joint between the fixed and turning section. An interesting feature is that the pedestrian gates on this side of the bridge are mounted on the moving section. There must be a reason for this but it does not spring to mind"
