Patrick writes: "On previous bridges a hardhat was provided. This bridge visit, the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Authority handed out gloves. They're noticeable in the image of myself on the connecting catwalk between the two running lengthwise. In that image it's clear that the expanse within the stiffening girder was forethought to the possibility of Shinkansens (Bullet Trains) being included someday. The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge connects the islands of Honshu with Awaji, while this Ohnaruto Bridge connects Awaji with Shikoku - completing the eastern most link of Honshu with Shikoku. The Akashi Kaikyo was originally planned to carry the Shinkansens, but the idea was shelved thus making the possibility of the Ohnaruto Bridge ever seeing it's lower level carrying trains even more remote."
