Patrick writes, "This is one where I was given permission to walk across by way of the catwalk within the stiffening girder immediately below the roadway. Accessing the catwalk was by first entering the anchorage at grade level, then ascending an elevator and a few flights of stairs. The Japanese are big on enclosing their splaying main cables and using dehumidifiers within to remove moisture. Some suspension bridges have the dryer air forced through the gaps between wires the whole length of the main cable such is the case with the Akashi Kaikyo."
