Patrick writes: "Sutter Buttes ten miles distant behind a cable-stay arrangement. The surrounding area of California's Great Central Valley is pancake flat for many thousands of square miles and all at well under 100 feet above sea level. South Butte (on the right), is the highest peak at 2,117 feet above sea level. Sutter Buttes is renowned for being the 'Smallest Mountain Range in the World.' The range is actually circular with a diameter of 10 miles and covers an area of about 75 square miles. The mountains are the remnants of a volcano that has been dormant for over a million years."
