These photos are from June, 2004. This was my second visit to this bridge (older photos). I wanted to check out the recent repairs to the deck. The bridge deck had been damaged by high winds in November, 2003. The Roanoke Times reported on April 13, 2004: "In early March, a VDOT bridge crew replaced a few floor beams and some timber railing. Workers also tightened a lateral cable that braces the bridge against the wind."
This is likely not the "lateral cable" mentioned in the article above. Just an interesting feature of the bridge that I noticed.
