The Portage Viaduct was very accessible as it stood above the Upper Genesee Falls, the highlight of Letchworth State Park. Like the Kinzua Viaduct (another large metal viaduct of the late 19th century), this was not the original structure at this site. The bridge pictured here, completed in 1875, replaced a large timber viaduct. The 1875 Portage Viaduct was demolished in 2018.
