When completed in 2005, the Ravenel bridge had the longest main span of any cable-stayed bridge in North America (1,546 feet). The John James Audubon Bridge in Louisiana, opened in 2011, became the longest with a main span of 1,583 feet. Both are significantly shorter than the world's longest cable-stayed bridges such as the Russky Island Bridge (near Vladivostok, Russia) having a main span of 3,622 feet.
