Inventory Log Archive (2000)

This is a list of inventory additions and modifications. Several individuals are credited with providing information for the inventory. Their names appear in bold.

  • Thanks to Buddy Finney of Eureka Springs, Arkansas who sent me an image of a suspension bridge across the White River in Beaver, Arkansas. I noticed the towers of this bridge appear to be the same of the Winkley Bridge that spanned the Little Red River in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Several images of the Winkley Bridge are available at the HABS/HAER site. Then I noticed a link I had listed under the Winkley Bridge is not the Winkley Bridge, but another smaller, but similar, Arkansas suspension bridge. Thus, I have made the following adjustments:
    • Added "(suspension bridge)" across the White River in Beaver, AR.
    • Added "(swinging bridge)" across Sylamore Creek in Mountain View, AR.
  • Added "1951 Cologne-Mulheim" in Germany.
  • Added "1954 Duisburg-Homberg" in Germany.
  • Added "1855 (suspension bridge)" across the River Dnepr at Kiev, Ukraine.
  • Added "(swinging bridge)" at Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.
  • Added "Bromide" at Sulphur, Oklahoma.
  • Added "(suspension bridge)" at North Wood County Park in Marshfield, Wisconsin.
  • Added "1947 Hal Adams" across the Suwannee River near Mayo, FL. Thanks to Dale Grieme for providing information about this bridge.

  • Added "(footbridge)" across Chickamauga Creek at Chattanooga, TN.
  • Added "1892 Androscoggin Pedestrian" across the Androscoggin River between Brunswick and Topsham, Maine.
  • Added "1936 Androscoggin Pedestrian" across the Androscoggin River between Brunswick and Topsham, Maine. Thank you to William F. Morin of Topsham, Maine who provided information about the "swinging bridge" between Brunswick and Topsham, Maine. He referred me to a 10/19/1999 article from the Portland Press Herald ("Solid Footing for The Footbridge") discussing plans to refurbish the bridge because it seems to be "tilting and swinging more than usual". According to the article, the bridge was originally built in 1892, but was swept away by a flood in 1936 and subsequently rebuilt.
  • Added "1827 Hammersmith" across the River Thames at London, England.
  • Added "1887 Hammersmith" across the River Thames at London, England (a replacement for the 1827 span).
  • Added "1858 Chelsea" across the River Thames at London, England.
  • Added "1937 Chelsea" across the River Thames at London, England (a replacement for the 1858 span).

  • Added "(footbridge)" across the Oswegatchie River in Wanakena, NY.
  • Added "(suspension bridge)" at Dumfries, Scotland.
  • Added "(suspension bridge)" at Bellevile, Ontario, Canada.
  • Added "(suspension bridge)" across the Grand River at Palisade, CO.
  • Added "(suspension bridge)" across the American River at Auburn, CA.
  • Added "(suspension bridge)" across the Delaware River at Port Jervis, NY.
  • Added "(suspension bridge)" across the Grand River, in Mauritius.
  • Renamed "1921 Rondout" to "1921 Kingston-Port Ewen".
  • Recategorized "(footbridge)" at Launceston, Tasmania to "1904 Alexandra".
  • Added "(footbridge)" at Conwy, Wales. I have several images of Telford's famous Conwy suspension bridge that show another suspension bridge sandwiched between the Telford span and Stephenson's tubular bridge.
